It's a general believe of the people that the word 'Cricket' comes from Dutch word 'Krick' which roughly means stick or stuff which represents the shape of the bat of this game.
Anyway, now a days it's a popular sports among the word right after football. Almost more than 100 countries play at least modern form of cricket,i.e. T20 game.
Now let's talk about the niceties of this game in this blog. Here it is ..
History of cricket
Cricket originated in England in the late 16th century but it's been popular from 17th century onwards. Later cricket spread through British colonial influence and reached the countries like India, Australia, South Africa, West Indies etc.
However the first rule of the cricket was set in Melborne Cricket Ground (MCG) in 1744 and first International Match was played between Canada and USA in aproax 1844.
The iconic Ashes Test Series between Australia and England started in 1882.
Popularity of the game:
In the very beginning of the game it wasn't so popular as it is now-a-days. The popularity got its height when ODI World Cup was held for the first time in 1975. Since then the game has modified a lot and gained world recognition. Of late in 21st century T20 (Short format of cricket) has been launched and in our busy world we are very much amused with this format. This format of cricket first started in 2007 with T20 World Cup held in South Africa. Though it's IPL that creates a vibe on cricket lovers.
Story Of Indian Cricket:
Cricket stepped into India by the hands of the British colonial rulers almost in 1700s. The very first match was played by British sailors in 1721 in Cambay, Gujrat.
The frist Indian team was created in 1911 and went to England to play cricket there and BCCI was established in 1928 to manage Indian cricket. India played its first test debut against England at Lord's in 1932 under the captaincy of CK Nayadu.
India made his first test victory against England at Lord's. Then in 1983 India won ODI World Cup for the first time under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. Since then Indian cricket has changed totally.
Indian cricket team has won two world cups under Dhoni's captaincy in 2007 1st T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup. 2013 Champions Trophy also went to India under his captainy. That's why some critics stated that MS Dhoni was one of the most successful captain ever in Indian cricket team has ever seen.
Though India was unbeatable in ODI & T20 but in test it was really difficult to rule all over the world specially in SENA countries. But this impossible was made possible under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. When he took charge as test captain in 2014 India was number 7th in ICC Test ranking then it was a hard struggle to be number 1 in just few years. It was the golden period of Indian cricket. But he was a successful captain without winning any ICC event.
Then came Rohit Sharma whose tremendously efforts helped Indian to reach to the final of 2023 ODI World Cup. But unfortunately India was beaten by Australia. It was a massive heartbreak for the Indians. Luck favours in the very next year 2024 when India won T20 World Cup on African soil for the second time.
Equipments Needed:
To play cricket a player need some equipments to carry with him as a protection like helmet, arm guard, pad for legs and chest protection, abdoman guard as well as gloves for the keeper and batsman. There are also needed six wickets and four bails, one punched ball and 11 players for each of the team. The distance between the two wickets must be 66 metres.
Conclusion:
There should be no conclusion for this kind of popular game. Yet cricket has been made a global recognition. Some few name that changed the entire scenario of cricket like Sachin Tendulkar, Don Bradman, Vivian Richard, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni etc.
