Introduction:
There was no dearth of leaders in India that day. But, ‘Netaji’ was only one and that was Subhas Chandra Bose. Subhash Chandra to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose- behind this transition lies a long history of uncompromising struggle.
The uncompromising struggle of his life has established him as a great man in the world history. During that life struggle he realized ‘’compromise is a mindless thing – leads to the degradation of man and the loss of ideals.’’ He understood, ‘’There is no worse crime than compromising with injustice.’’
He said, ‘’In school, college, home, outside, on the road, in the field, wherever you see tyranny, injustice, stop it like a hero – in a moment will be established in the seat of valor – Forever the stream of life will turn to truth – all life will be transformed.
Thus he led his life as a hero and struggled for our liberty.
Early Life & carrier:
He was the son of a relatively wealthy family. Initially, he was too much inspired by the ideas of Swami Vivekananda and that’s why he decided to be a monk in his early youth life. However, he got tremendously heavy hurt to see the discriminations among Indians especially religious minded people. Then he came in contact with Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das and his life got a new turn and found the actual meaning of life, i.e. to serve for his countrymen. Thus, his life as a freedom fighter started. As a result he left one of the prestigious job ICS (Now IAS) negligently where he stood 4th due to the need of making free India from the sickle of the British. Then he never looked back. His struggling life started moving in full swing and uninterrupted. Parental affection, the so-called happy home or the affection of wife and children, lack of age and power, dangerous obstacles and the fear of certain death nothing could pull him back.
Role Model of the youth:
Subhas Chandra Bose was the epitome of youth. He was a source of inspiration to the youth of the country. His indomitable courage, irresistible enthusiasm, endless energy, heroic expression, disciplined work ethic, unpretentious lifestyle, genuine compassion and love for people made him the most attractive personality of the youth. His presence or his very name stirred the hearts of the countrymen so much that it was a source of terror to the ruling class. He was a place of deep trust and confidence with the people of the country. That’s why hundreds of the youth people jumped into the freedom struggle by his touching call, ‘’Give me blood, I shall give you freedom.’’
Role in INC:
For his leadership quality Bose was elected two times Congress President in 1938 and 1939. He was always aggressive against the British imperialism and he had indomitable courage to face them. On the other hand there some Indian Congress leaders including Mahatma Gandhi who always thought about nonviolence. Thus, they couldn’t agree with Subhas Chandra Bose. At last Subhash Chandra Bose left INC for being ideological clashed with Gandhi and other INC leaders.
Formed Forward Bloc:
After resigning from the National Congress Subhas Chandra Bose formed Forward Bloc in 1939, an organization for radical national movement. The main motive of that organization was to unite nationalist under the struggle for freedom and continue fighting to establish socialist, republic country. That organization actioned directly against the British Imperialism.
Great Escape:
Subhas Chandra Bose contemplated that to free India we need strong power who could weak the British control in India. In that point of view he sought foreign help to make British government weak in India. So, when he was house arrest in India he escaped with help of his nephew Sisir Bose and went to Germany to meet Adolf Hitler but Hitler didn’t help him much. So, he went to Japan next and allied with their Prime Minister Hideki Tojo. He supported Subhas Chandra for his fighting spirit and provided assistance for the formation of INA (Indian National Army). There Japan also recognized Ajad Hind Government and played a significant role in facilitating INA’s campaign in South-East Asia.
Indian National Army (INA):
Bose revived Indian soldiers from the grip of Japanese soldiers during World War II and make a solid troop of soldiers. INA fought bravely against the British in South-East Asia could manage to hit them terribly. INA was praised a lot for its spirit of fighting and helped India to get freedom.
Ideological Legacy:
Subhas Chandra Bose strongly believed that socialist Russia was a reliable force in the struggle against imperialism. He has expressed this in various discussions for a long time. When Germany invaded Russia he said, ‘’The sympathies of the Indian people in the Russo-German was are clearly with Russia.’’ The German leadership was told that the Azad Hind Army stationed in Germany would not take part in the war against Russia. SO, we can easily understand Subhas Chandra Bose had a strong belief on socialism and communism. Besides this he was always talking about equality and fraternity. In his early life he thought to drive away only the British but later he realized there was a need of a socialist revolution to reform this socio-economic condition.
Lack of support:
It was clear that Indian so called intellectual leaders and political parties didn’t understand the importance of Subhas Chandra Bose and didn’t support him.
There was an article written by Professor Deepak Bose of Nagasaki University, Japan (Published in ‘The Statesman’ on 3rd February 2011. He said in his article, ‘’The CPI had no direct contact with the Soviet communist Party during the Second World War. It was the British Communist Party, not the Soviet Communist Party that advised the CPI to oppose the Bose and Azad Hind governments. In 1953, the CPI Ajay, Ghosh, the then general secretary of the CPI, said in Moscow that he was severely reprimanded by Stalin for not supporting the Azad Hind government.
Mysterious Death:
‘A genuine true leader is born but never died’ tis quote is out and out apt for Subhas Chandra Bose as there is a mystery around his death. The most spreading report was the plane crash theory but it was controversial and whole thing is mysterious till date. The emotional anxiety of the countrymen is at the level of panic over the conflicting information and confusion. Is it so difficult in the modern world to find out what happened to such a great patriot or is it a conspiracy to hide his indomitable courage, charming personality in front of the countrymen?
Conclusion:
Subhas Chandra Bose was the most promising, determined and disciplined leader India has ever seen. Though his irresistible guts, indomitable mindset and charming personality he was praised throughout the whole world. We Indians keep him in our core heart and every 23rd January we tribute this great heart of India. Hope someday his death mystery will get exposed and his dream about his country will come true.
